PROJECTS
PROJECTS
ICAN has a number of projects throughout Inverclyde aimed at promoting sustainable practices and community climate action.
Our projects contribute to the mission to reduce carbon emissions and build communities resilient to the impacts of climate change.
We specifically focus on promoting food justice, sustainable travel, share and repair, and nature enhancement.
-
It is estimated that 9.5 million tonnes of food go to waste every year in the UK. This continues to happen whilst 1 in 5 people in the UK struggle to put food on the table.
A more equitable and healthier food system is a necessary target for a climate resilient community.
-
Sustainable, active travel has great positive impacts on health and the environment. Walking and cycling are economical, better for physical and mental health, they reduce air pollution and cut carbon emissions.
Adopting, wherever possible, sustainable travel modes is something that can improve your own and others’ lives, building a healthier, cleaner and fairer Inverclyde.
-
Protection of nature and biodiversity is the underlying theme of all projects on active travel, growing food, sharing resources and climate awareness.
-
A significant driver of climate change is mass production and overconsumption, including resource extraction.
Whilst the main responsibility lies in unsustainable production methods, it is important for consumers to try and make more cost-efficient and sustainable choices. By understanding the consequences of mass production, we can take important steps to protect the place we live in, and ensure better futures.
